What you get when you book a Sofia hotel through SofiaGoTravel
Most travellers search for a Sofia hotel on a booking site, compare a few prices and pay. The room is the same wherever you book, so the useful question is what else the booking gives you. On SofiaGoTravel there are two things on top of the room: a hotel credit worth 5% of the room price, or a climate option that funds one verified tonne of carbon removal for the stay. You pick one of the two on each booking.
The search itself shows live prices across more than 8 million hotels worldwide, and Sofia and the rest of Bulgaria are where the guides on this site go deepest. When you choose a room and tap See price or Reserve, you finish the booking on app.impt.io at the same rate or better than elsewhere. The credit and the climate option come with the booking, and the room price stays the same either way.
This article explains how each option works, gives a worked example in euros, and shows how to plan a Sofia trip so the credit is useful. It does not promise a price: rates are live and change with your dates, so check the booking page before you pay.
How the 5% hotel credit works
Every confirmed booking made through SofiaGoTravel earns 5% of the room price back as hotel credit in your account. The credit is applied at checkout on your next booking. The simple arithmetic is that a €200 stay leaves you €10 toward the following trip, a €100 stay leaves €5 and a €400 stay leaves €20.
Take a five-night stay as an example. If the room comes to €60 a night, the room price is €300 and the credit is €15. That is not a large sum on its own, but it is money you do not spend on the next trip, and it costs nothing to collect: there is no subscription and no card needed to open the account.
The credit is tied to your account, which is why registration matters. You can browse prices without one. If you register after you have already booked, the credit for that booking is not something to count on, so create the account before you search.
The climate option: one tonne of carbon removal per stay
Instead of the credit, you can choose Climate Positive Travel. With this option, each confirmed stay funds one verified tonne of carbon removal through certified projects, at no extra cost to you. The room price is the same as it would be with the credit.
The site also has a page that shows the registered climate projects behind the tonne, with photos and a link to all the projects on IMPT. If the climate side matters to you, read that page first and decide before you book.
The two options are a choice, not a bundle. You choose credit or climate on every booking, so a short business trip can earn credit and a holiday can fund carbon removal. Nothing carries over from one choice to the next.
Credit or climate: how to decide
A simple rule works for most travellers. If you expect to book again within the next few months, the credit is the practical choice, because it comes off your next booking at checkout. If you will not book again soon, or you would rather the stay did something beyond the room, choose the climate option.
Frequent travellers to Sofia get more from the credit. A business traveller who books several short stays a year can chain them: each stay earns credit that reduces the next. A family planning one summer holiday may prefer the climate option, since the credit would wait until a later trip.
There is no wrong answer, and the choice does not change the room, the dates or the cancellation terms. Whichever you pick, read the cancellation wording on the booking page for your dates. Free cancellation applies on most rooms, but it depends on the rate, so check before you confirm.
Register for free before you search
Creating an account takes under a minute and needs no card. It is what unlocks both the 5% hotel credit and the climate option on your booking. You can create your free account here, and then come back to the search box on the SofiaGoTravel home page.
Enter Sofia-Grad as the destination, add your dates and guests, and open the results. Compare at least three or four options. Look at the guest score together with the number of reviews, and check how far the hotel is from the nearest metro station, because in Sofia that is often a better guide to daily convenience than the distance to a landmark.
When you have chosen, check the dates and guest numbers once more, complete the booking on app.impt.io, and keep the confirmation email. Note the cancellation deadline in your calendar if the rate is refundable.
Choose the area first, then use the credit on the right room
The credit is a percentage of the room price, so it is worth more on longer or pricier stays. But the area still matters more than the credit. A room that looks cheap far from the metro can cost you time and taxi fares that the credit will not cover.
For a first trip, Serdika and the streets around Vitosha Boulevard are the default base. The site's price notes put a decent central 3-star double at €43 to €74 in shoulder season. The article on where to stay in Sredets covers the central district in detail, and Lozenets or Sredets compares it with the quieter residential option.
If you are arriving by train, see the list of hotels near Sofia Central Station. If you fly in, hotels near Sofia airport explains the trade-offs for a short layover. For a longer stay, the credit grows with the number of nights, so check the list of hotels with kitchenettes for long stays.
Time your dates so the credit goes further
Because the credit is a share of the price, cheaper weeks earn less but cost less, so the net effect is small. Dates matter more for the room itself. April to May and September to October bring mild weather, and the site's price notes put central rooms around €39 to €61 in those months. Mid-December to early January pushes central doubles up, to around €69 to €95, with ski season on Vitosha and the Christmas markets on Vitosha Boulevard.
In November and February the site's price notes show central 3-star doubles around €26 to €39, and in July and August around €35 to €52, when many locals leave for the coast. If your dates are flexible, moving a trip by a week can change the bill more than anything else. Read when to visit Sofia month by month before you fix the trip.
Two dates to check first are St George's Day on 6 May and 24 May, Cyrillic Alphabet Day, when hotels fill with domestic travellers and rates jump briefly.
Using the credit on your next trip
The credit applies on your next booking at checkout, and it works on any hotel in the search, not only in Sofia. After a Sofia stay you could put it toward a weekend in Plovdiv or a winter trip to Bansko; both have guides on this site, such as best hotels in Plovdiv.
Keep the same account for every booking so the credit sits in one place. If you travel with family or colleagues, the booking that earns the credit is the one made from your account, so book from the account you want to collect in.
As with any booking, read the room type and the rate before you pay. Two rates that look the same can differ on breakfast, refundability and fees at the property.
A short checklist before you book
Register first, so the booking earns the credit or funds the climate option. Choose the area before the hotel. Compare three or four results, and check the metro distance. Read what the rate includes, especially cancellation and breakfast. Choose credit or climate for this booking. Complete the booking on app.impt.io and keep the confirmation.
Done in that order, booking takes a few minutes, and the credit or the tonne of carbon removal is part of the same booking, not a separate step afterwards.
