Hotels in Obzor

Every hotel we list in Obzor, with live prices and free cancellation on most rooms.

The town centre is the place to sleep if you want to walk everywhere: the streets around the central park, where the Roman columns salvaged from the Templum Jovis stand in the open air, put you five to ten minutes from the sand, the morning fruit market and the bus stop on the Varna–Burgas road that every onward trip starts from. The hotel strip closer to the beach and the Dvoynitsa river mouth holds the larger blocks, including most of the all-inclusive stock, and charges roughly 20–30% more for the same room size than a guesthouse three streets inland. South of the river, towards Irakli and the village of Emona, you get quiet, campsite-style accommodation and pine shade, but no shops worth the name and a car is close to compulsory. Byala, 8 km north, is the value alternative — cliff-top rooms, red-rock beaches and prices below Obzor's in August — while Sveti Vlas at around 22 km and the gated Elenite complex nearby sit a clear tier above on price. For a first visit with no car, the centre wins on every practical count.

Obzor works well as a quiet base for the churches of the southern Black Sea coast rather than as a destination full of them. Nesebar is 34 km south, listed by UNESCO since 1983, with more than forty medieval churches on the peninsula: the 13th–14th century Christ Pantocrator, the 5th–6th century Old Metropolitan basilica of St Sophia, and St Stephen's, whose interior is covered in 16th-century frescoes. Pomorie, about 50 km south, has the Monastery of St George with its holy spring, busiest on Gergyovden, 6 May. The town itself is layered rather than grand — Greek Heliopolis, Byzantine Naulochos, then the Ottoman village of Gyozeken — and its ancient stones sit in the park rather than behind a ticket desk. Staying central matters here because the coastal buses pick up on the main road, and a room on the far side of the Dvoynitsa turns a 09:00 departure into a taxi ride.

Come between the last week of May and the end of September, because outside that window most of Obzor shuts. July and August are peak: the sea reaches 25–26°C, the beach fills from about 10:00, and rates roughly double against June. The 15 August feast of the Assumption pulls crowds to Nesebar and Pomorie and tightens rooms along the whole strip for three or four days either side. June is the sensible compromise — sea around 21–22°C, everything open, rates near shoulder-season levels — and the first fortnight of September is better still, with warm water and half the sunbeds. From late October to April the town is genuinely closed apart from a handful of year-round guesthouses; the one winter date that draws anyone is 6 January, when the cross is thrown into the sea for Epiphany.

Budget rooms — a double in a family guesthouse or a small apartment inland — run about €22–35 a night in June and September and €35–55 in the first three weeks of August. Mid-range three-star hotels with breakfast sit around €45–65 in shoulder season and €65–95 at peak, and self-catering apartments for four cluster at €50–80 in August. The top of Obzor's own market is four-star all-inclusive at roughly €100–150 per room per night in August, dropping to €65–85 in June; if you want more than that, the money goes to Sveti Vlas and Elenite rather than to Obzor. Expect €10–14 a day for an umbrella and two loungers on the central beach, and around €12–18 a head for a full dinner with wine in the tavernas near the park.

Before you book

Which is the best area to stay in Obzor?
The town centre, within the few blocks around the park holding the Roman Temple of Jupiter columns, is the best base for most visitors. You are five to ten minutes' walk from the beach, next to the shops and the taverna cluster, and on the main road where the Varna–Burgas coastal buses stop. The beachfront blocks cost roughly 20–30% more for equivalent rooms and are where the all-inclusive properties sit. If you want quiet and have a car, look south of the Dvoynitsa towards Irakli; if you want cheaper, look 8 km north to Byala.
How many nights is Obzor worth?
Four to seven nights suits Obzor, and a full week is the standard booking here. Two or three days covers the beach, the Roman columns in the park and an evening walk to the river mouth, but the town is small and you will have seen it. The extra nights earn their keep on day trips: Nesebar at 34 km, Pomorie and its St George Monastery at about 50 km, Cape Emine at 12 km, and Varna at roughly 70 km. Anything beyond ten nights is better split with a night or two in Nesebar's old town.
How do I get to Obzor from Burgas or Varna airport?
Burgas Airport (Sarafovo) is the nearer arrival point at about 62 km, roughly an hour's drive, and Varna Airport is about 75 km over the Dyulino pass, around 1h15. A prebooked private transfer costs roughly €55–75 per car from Burgas and €70–90 from Varna. By public transport you take a shuttle or taxi into Burgas or Varna bus station, then a coastal bus that stops on Obzor's main road for around €6–8, with a journey time near 1h30. There is no railway station in Obzor, so the nearest trains are at Burgas and Varna.
Can I visit Nesebar's churches and Pomorie's monastery from Obzor without a car?
Yes, in high season. Coastal buses towards Sunny Beach and Nesebar run through Obzor several times an hour in July and August; the ride to Nesebar takes roughly 45–55 minutes and costs about €4–6, and you can continue to Pomorie for the Monastery of St George. Nesebar's peninsula holds more than forty medieval churches, UNESCO-listed since 1983, and is walkable from the bus terminal in ten minutes. In June and September services thin out, so check the last return time before you set off; from October the timetable drops to a few daily runs and a car or taxi becomes the practical answer.
When is the cheapest time to stay in Obzor?
Late May, early June and the second half of September are the cheapest weeks with the town still functioning. Guesthouse doubles fall to about €22–35 a night against €35–55 in the first three weeks of August, and mid-range hotels sit near €45–65 rather than €65–95. September has the advantage of a sea still around 22–23°C after the summer. Avoid the days either side of 15 August, when the Assumption feast at Nesebar and Pomorie tightens rooms right along this stretch of coast.
