About Plovdiv
Plovdiv is the second-largest city in Bulgaria and one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe, with a history spanning more than six millennia. Built around six syenite hills, it preserves Thracian, Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman and modern Bulgarian heritage. Today it is a lively cultural and economic centre, known for its long pedestrian main street, the Kapana creative district and a packed calendar of festivals and exhibitions. It served as European Capital of Culture in 2019, which left behind renovated public spaces, galleries and venues. The central area around the main street puts the Roman stadium, shopping and restaurants within walking distance, while the Old Town on the three main hills is known for its National Revival houses, cobbled lanes and the Roman amphitheatre. Kapana, a former craft district, is the main area for independent shops, cafes and bars on flat, walkable streets.
