3-star hotels in Serdika
Three-star stays in and around Serdika, the crossing point where every Sofia metro line meets and 2000 years of the city sit on top of each other. These 15 apartments, guest houses and small hotels suit short-break travellers, couples and families who want to walk to the ruins, Sveta Nedelya Square and the Largo.
Staying in Serdika
Serdika is less a neighbourhood than the point where the city converges: the Roman street excavated in the metro underpass, TZUM department store, the former Communist Party House and the country's tightest transport hub. Weekday lunch queues at the Halite market stalls run 12:00 to 14:00; weekends the government offices around the Largo close and the streets go quiet. The hotels here sit along the streets feeding that core — Ekzarh Josif, Knyaz Boris I, Veslets, Pop Bogomil, Dunav, Knyaz Alexander Dondukov and Vasil Levski — all within striking distance of Sveta Nedelya Square and Serdika station. Because the district is dead central and always moving, it works best for one-night and short stays: you can walk to everything and reach the airport in 25 minutes door to door via metro. Couples get apartment-style rooms with balconies, families find family rooms and cots, and business travellers have front desks and business centres; longer stays may find it short on neighbourhood feel.

Getting there and around
Serdika station is the tightest transport hub in the country and the point where every metro line meets and every tram passes, so almost everything in the district is reached on foot from the platforms. From the airport the door-to-door metro journey takes 25 minutes. The open-air section of the Roman ruins between the Serdika 1 exit and Sveta Nedelya is accessible from street level without passing through metro turnstiles, and only the smaller indoor section inside the paid area needs a ticket. Vitosha Boulevard starts at Sveta Nedelya Square about 400 metres, a five-minute walk south, so no transport is needed between the two.
When to go
Weekday daytime is the busiest and most useful window: office workers cut between the Largo and the Halite market, and lunch queues at the market stalls run 12:00 to 14:00. Weekends the same streets go quiet because the government buildings around the Largo close and the tourist flow thins to the odd walking tour. Expect construction noise near the Serdika 2 entrance most mornings, as the station has been mid-upgrade for years. The ruins are lit at night, so an evening walk-through works once the museums close.
