Getting there and around
The district is the tightest transport hub in the country: every metro line meets at Serdika station, every tram passes, and the pedestrian underpass beneath the Roman ruins doubles as the busiest foot-traffic corridor in the city. From the airport you can reach Serdika in 25 minutes door to door via metro. On foot, Sveta Nedelya Square sits about 400 metres, a five-minute walk south of the station area, and Vitosha Boulevard starts right at the square and runs south past shops and cafés toward the National Palace of Culture, so there is no need for transport between the two.
When to go
Weekdays the square outside Sveta Nedelya fills with office workers between the Largo and the Halite market, and the lunch queues at the market stalls run 12:00 to 14:00. Weekends the same streets go quiet because the government buildings around the Largo close and the tourist flow thins to the odd walking tour. Be aware that construction noise near the Serdika 2 entrance is common most mornings, as that station has been mid-upgrade for years. In general terms, spring and autumn give the mildest weather for the flat, paved heritage loop.
