Its narrow lanes and high-walled houses make it feel like a handful of streets around the 13th-century Boyana Church, a UNESCO World Heritage site, rather than a town with a centre. Five minutes' walk away is the National History Museum of Bulgaria, in a former state residence. Visitors come for the church, the museum and the waterfall trailhead at the top of Boyansko Ezero. A full waterfall hike takes about three hours round trip, or you can turn back at the forest edge. There is no metro, and restaurants close at 22:00. Dragalevtsi and Simeonovo are closer to ski lifts and higher trailheads.
