Boyana is a foothill village at the foot of Mount Vitosha, about 15 to 20 minutes by taxi from central Sofia. Its narrow lanes and high-walled houses make it feel like a handful of streets around the 13th-century Boyana Church, a UNESCO World Heritage site, rather than a town with a centre. Five minutes' walk away is the National History Museum of Bulgaria, in a former state residence. Visitors come for the church, the museum and the waterfall trailhead at the top of Boyansko Ezero.
